Evaluating Your Faith Today
Abraham was a man of great faith. Romans 4:18 -21 talks about his faith in God concerning the promise of a son. Abraham was given the promise of a son when he was approximately 75 years old. When Abraham was 100 years old, the promise was fulfilled with the birth of Isaac. When Abraham was 99 years old, about 1 year before the birth of Isaac, Abraham's faith reached maturity. Romans 4:18 - 21 speaks of Abraham's great faith at age 99. Before we look at his faith at age 99, it is good to remember that Abraham's faith prior to age 99 was up and down, in and out, strong and weak. Abraham's journey to mature faith is an example to us. Our faith might be weak at times, but it can grow and strengthen to maturity. Let's look at Abraham's faith and use it to evaluate our faith in God and His promises.
1. v. 18 He believed even though all hope was lost. "Contrary to hope, in hope believed"
2. v. 19 He stopped looking at himself and started looking to God. "He did not consider his own body"
3. v. 20 He stopped wavering between doubt and faith. "He did not waver at the promise"
4. v. 20 He worshiped God before the answer came. "Giving glory to God"
5. v. 21 He became fully convinced of the power of God to fulfill the promise of God. "Fully convinced ..
He was able to perform"
As you look at Abraham's mature faith at age 99 evaluate your own faith in God and His promises.
Remember, it took Abraham 25 years to reach this level of faith.
Remember, Abraham struggled with doubt during his 25 years of waiting of God.
