What Is The Meaning And Purpose Of Baptism?

What Is The Meaning And Purpose Of Baptism?

Baptism identifies a believer with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. In Romans 6:3-4 it says, “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life…”

Being baptized is a public testimony of your faith in Jesus Christ.  It is the outward evidence of an inward reality.

Why Should We Be Baptized?

Jesus commanded the act of Baptism in the Great Commission. In Matthew 28:19-20 it says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” (NKJV).

The Proper Mode of baptism is immersion. John 3:23 “because there was plenty of water” Mark 1:10 “came up out of the water” (When Jesus was baptized), Acts 8:38 “went down into the water, and he baptized him”.
