Day 31

Let Jesus Fill Everything in Every Way

Ephesians 1:3

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Devotion

Have you ever heard of Henrietta Green? She is listed in The Guinness World Records as “America’s Greatest Miser”.  She died in 1916, and left an estate worth over $100 million. By today’s standards, that would be worth over a billion dollars!  Yet, she ate oatmeal cold, because she would not pay to heat it. She wore the same dress every day. When her son broke his leg, he was forced to have an amputation because his mother tried for too long to treat his injury at home instead of paying for medical treatment. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Henrietta had such great assets, but went through life miserable. She lived the life of a pauper, when great wealth was at her disposal.  But the same could be said of many Christians today…

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Eph. 1:3

I believe many of God’s blessings go unused and unappreciated. God wants us to know and accept His blessings. One expressed purpose of the Epistle to the Ephesians is that we gain this knowledge. Let’s make a list of the riches found in Ephesians chapter one. Particular blessings are given from each person of the Trinity.

  1. Through the Father
-God has chosen us (v. 4)
-God has predestined us (v. 5-6)
-God has accepted us (v. 6)
  2. Through the Son
-God has redeemed us (v. 7)
-God has forgiven our sins (v. 7-8)
-God has revealed His will (9-10)
-God has given us an inheritance (11-12)
  3. Through the Holy Spirit
-God has put a seal on us (v. 13)
-God has given us a guarantee (v. 14)

The apostle Paul spends the rest of chapter praying for our enlightenment, that we would know these riches, and know that they all come to us through Christ. (v. 18)   The same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to all who believe in Him. (v. 19-20) Why would anyone turn down the opportunity to live in the resurrection power of God?  Do you live in the riches of Christ Jesus or do you live like a spiritual pauper? Henrietta Green made a choice not to use her earthly riches. She and her family suffered for her choice. You also have a choice. Receive your riches in Christ and let Jesus fill everything in every way! (v. 23)
